Information
Leading Edge is a semi-professional speculative fiction magazine with a three-fold mission:
1) provide high-quality, entertaining speculative fiction.
2) develop new writers and artists.
3) prepare editing and publishing students with marketable experience.
Leading Edge began in 1980 as an outgrowth of a creative writing class; today the magazine has international contributors and subscribers. Our staff is 100% volunteer and the Leading Edge experiance is considered one of the best on campus. We have had many authors and former staff members go out into the publishing world and find great success.
We currently meet in the JKB on the 4th floor in the Publishing Lab (4051 JKB). Our schedule for the winter 2008 semester is as follows
Tuesday 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Thursday 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Saturday 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Anyone is welcome to come join the Leading Edge. Most of us had nary a lick of experience with anything related to editing or publishing when we first started volunteering here. Most volunteers begin reading "slush" and then depending on their interests move into Assistant Editor roles in the Production, Development or Editing Departments.
